How to Grow Bopak Bok Choy from Seed
Direct sow bok choy seeds outdoors in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before your last spring frost date. For an extended autumn harvest, sow again in late summer.
Sow seeds approximately 6 mm (1/4 inch) deep and 2.5 cm (1 inch) apart in rows spaced 30 cm (12 inches) apart. Thin emerging seedlings to a final spacing of 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) apart for baby heads, or up to 25 cm (10 inches) for full-sized plants.
Select a sunny to partially shaded spot with fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Water consistently to maintain steady growth, keep leaves succulent, and prevent premature bolting.
Harvest whole baby heads by cutting at the soil line when plants reach 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) tall, or harvest individual outer leaves as needed for a continuous supply.
Growing Bok Choy in Canada
Bopak bok choy is exceptionally well-suited for Canadian growers thanks to its quick maturity and improved thermal stability, allowing it to bridge unpredictable spring and midsummer temperature shifts without going to seed quickly.
Succession planting every 2–3 weeks from spring through late summer ensures a non-stop yield of crisp, homegrown pak choi for your kitchen through late autumn.
